Salvatore Simmini

Dr. Salvatore Simmini is Senior Scientist in the Research and Development Department at STEMCELL Technologies Ltd., Cambridge, UK. He currently leads a team actively working in developing innovative products for culturing gastrointestinal and lung organoids derived from both pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) and primary tissues. Dr. Simmini also serves as an instructor in several of STEMCELL Technologies’ Pluripotent Stem Cell and Organoids training courses. He is Principal Investigator (PI) in a number of European funded projects including Organovir, Sinergia and MAD-CoV 2. Dr. Simmini received his PhD on Stem Cells, Developmental Biology and Cancer at the University of Utrecht. During that time, he performed his research in the group of Dr. Jacqueline Deschamps at the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht, where he investigated molecular mechanisms controlled by transcription factor Cdx2 in adult mouse intestinal stem cells and during mouse embryonic development. During his postdoctoral training, he worked in the group of Dr. Jan Paul Medema and Dr. Louis Vermeulen at the Amsterdam Medical Centre (AMC) in Amsterdam, where he investigated mechanisms regulating intestinal stem cell proliferation and differentiation in colorectal cancer.

Within GUTVIBRATIONS, Salvatore will be supervising postdoctoral researcher Alessandro Dei.
