About

Zhijie Xiao is a senior scientist at BioLamina AB (Stockholm, Sweden). She is from Beijing, China. Zhijie majored in Pharmaceutics at China Pharmaceutical University and afterwards moved to Sweden to pursue her PhD at the department of Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institute. Her PhD project focused on discovering new genes in the kidney glomeruli. After finishing her PhD, Zhijie went on to do a postdoctoral position within the same research group. During her postdoctoral research she focused on pluripotent stem cell studies using Biolaminin 521 and was supervised by Prof. Karl Tryggvason. After finishing her postdoctoral research, Zhijie joined BioLamina AB and has been working there ever since. During her years at BioLamina, Zhijie is working with the BD group developing new products and applications involving different BioLaminin isoforms such as Biosilk and Biosilk521. At BioLamina, Zhijie is supervised by Dr. Therése Kallur, Director of Business Development.

Zhijie’s research project

Within GUTVIBRATIONS, Zhijie is going to work on, in collaboration with the other partners, providing supportive knowledge and technical validations about the usage and function of Biosilk/Biolaminin in the multi-organ system, aiming for better biological function of the culture system in a physiological and standardized way, for example to improve the brain organoid phenotype, set up a blood brain barrier model which reflects in vivo function and part-take in establishing a gut-epithelium which mimics virus uptake, ultimately modelling immunological and tissue responses as a consequence.
